Saxon Helmet

This Saxon Helmet is a Spangenhelm design popular during the Dark Ages and Early Middle Ages.

Typically a Spangenhelm was made up of plates that form a conical shape held together by metal strips. This example is different in that the helmet dome is made up of a single shell and it has a full face mask.

The example found at Sutton Hoo was a Spangenhelm type helmet much like this one with panels showing images of battle scenes.
